Please share your best corals!!! Do you have corals with crazy color patterns?

There are a lot of reasons to select different corals. Of course, some of those possible reasons are corals with amazing color patters, contrasting colors, and unique and unusual appearances. While zoanthids are only one of the coral groups with over-the-top color patterns, some of the variations definitely fit the bill and are truly eye-catching! What’s in your reef tank – do you have any corals with crazy color patterns? If so, we’d love to see pictures of them and hear any tips for enhancing the colors and patterns even more!!!

The rainbow goni I do not believe is a goni. Seller called it something else, I didn’t believe them and told them it’s a goni. The seller is very experienced and knowledgeable, insists it’s not a Goniopora. The back and forth doesn’t matter. I saw pictures of the mother colony and I had to get a frag. Originally was asking 500 shipped and price dropped to 250 shipped and I bought one. Seller warned me this is a very unique piece and a slow grower.

If you guys look at my tank you can see I know what I’m doing, and what you don’t see is my other experience, I’ve been reefing 24 years and have also kept successful sps tanks and grown large sps/acro/millipora colonies, I’ve kept mixed reefs, etc.

Let me preface this by saying this is one of the most, if not, THE most unique corals I’ve ever owned, in terms of appearance, needs, and behavior. I have several gonipora and this does not look or behave like a goni in person. It’s similar but different. Might be bernardapora

Frag 1 came November 22 2023. Retracted and closed up. I acclimated and put in my tank around 4pm. At 8pm coral was still retracted heavily. I checked on it around 3 am that night and the coral was completely dead. It displays signs of RTN like an acro. An LPS that fully RTN in 8 hours. Flesh peeling off, polyp bailing, and ended up bleached white skeleton before morning

I was in communication with the seller the entire time and we agreed the coral is sensitive and arrived stressed and died as a result. All my parameters are spot on. Seller agreed to replace the frag.

Frag 2 arrived dec 1 and looked noticeably better. Started opening that day also. And next day, still alive and opening!

And throughout December, it opened more and grew and the mother colony colors started to come in more

And then in January it stopped opening as much and I noticed it was encrusting the base more and more

I wonder if as a frag needing to establish itself and grow out, maybe it is diverting its energy into making a solid and sturdy base. Similar to acros that encrust a plug before they start to grow vertical. Regardless the coral looks healthy, and I have ocd with monitoring it, and week after week I see more encrusting over the edges of the plug. The plug is mounted to a 2x2 grow out tile so I can grow this into an nice colony
