Do pistol shrimp need fine sand in the substrate or will they be able to burrow in coarse-ish gravel / crushed shells? I got some substrate from TBS along with live rock and am debating leaving it as is vs mixing in some finer sand. I'd like to add a goby and shrimp to the tank down the road but wasn't sure if they'd be ok with the coarse substrate.

Should be fine as I see them on YouTube with coarse substrates. On the other hand mines use finer sand but not fine fine sand. They’ll use rubble rock to build with too so ideally a mixture of sand texture and various size rock rubble is best but not necessary.
