I have a Red Sea Reefer 250. My phosphates are 0.4 by Hanna ULR checker. I am planning on dosing Phosphate Rx. Several sites recommend a 10 micron filter sock during treatment. However, the finest Red Sea filter sock I can find is 100 micron. Will this do? Can other brands of 10 micron socks be modified for the Red Sea sock holder? Should I dose right into the filter sock or into the sump chamber containing the skimmer or directly into the skimmer?

So I put in 6 drops of Phosphate Rx. The skimmer immediately went into overflow mode. The foam is white and the collection cup is full of clear water/skimmate. I’ve already emptied it twice and it immediately refills.

That's par for the course (skimmers going nuts). If you have a drain tube for the skimmer collection cup you can run that into the filter sock temporarily (at least until it calms down).

Well with just 6 drops, I lost my yellow tang. I read that tangs are susceptible to phosphate Rx, but 6 drops for a 65 gallon system was a considerable underdosing. At such a low dose, I didn’t think it would hurt the tang. My was I wrong. Sucks.

Phos was 4.8 on a Hanna ULR, blue desktop model. It has tested over 4 twice in two weeks. I put 6 drops directly into skimmer, no overflow. Using pinky floss in cup. Tank is Reefer170, probably 40 gallon. I haven’t weighed Tonga branch. When I left everything still looked fine. I’ll see later today, starfish, 2 mandarins, snails. Scolys, blastos, acans, gonis, 2 gorgorian. Hopefully this wasn’t a mistake, I didn’t want to use GAC . N03 is about 10, guessing on a Nyos card. Dosing phyto nightly, 7 ml.

Update…should’ve read .43 (above), 6 drops into skimmer and eight hours later it’s .17
That’s 1/2 the dose it called out, I dosed for a 20 gallon tank.
Everything looks ok. I’m going to leave it there and remove detritus from sump in a few days . LRF nano and phyto tonight.
Does it expire? I couldn’t find a date anywhere on it.
