Tiny luxury market.. Enough said..
Not my Monopoly board..

Well, it’s not just paying for the hardware. It’s the R&D, warranty, customer service, being made in a country where workers are paid more than 50 cents an hour, continued application updates, etc. If people don’t want that, there is nothing wrong with going with a black box from eBay- they can also grow coral of course. Different strokes for different folks.

I like how some are comparing aquarium lights to commercial so here is one for you; I received an email from an owners rep today on a building we are finishing up and was complaining about the look of a pendant fixture. I told them I didn't like the fixture either and showed them an email where I tried to get them to delete them last year saving them $31,500. Which comes out to $1,500 a piece. Would you pay $1,500 for the following round fixture? And you think Ecotechs and Coral Care fixtures are expensive? I had a school district pay $50,000 last year for a chandelier in a stairwell.

It is defiantly part of it and probably the majority of it. It has little to do with the cost of manufacturing.
But you just proved his point.
It also must be a big enough market now that a company like Philips is getting into it.

Really a company that sells a 65.00 - 100.00 High Bay fixtures doesn't have customer service or any of that?

The lighting company I had a meeting with today wasn't doing customer service? No research and development went into that fixture? Fixture is made in the USA too at least the ones he showed us were..

Why can't a fixture come middle of the road?

What fixture is it? I would actually like to look up the cost if we have a rep for them.

Allot of people get ripped in the industry because they hire a contractor and sometimes interiors people do not care about cost or even a good lighting job. Also I am guessing it is a government job which ends up paying more for everything.. I am talking the round fixture.

Any how this thread is being derailed pm me if you have the fixture model.
I am done with the whole pricing thing.

For me it is all speculation on this fixture pricing and the fixture looks promising.

here we go again crying over $800 I just spent $4600 on a front brake kit for my car why, because I can and will make the money back.

So you like paying too much for things? Funny part is you cant stop any faster then your tires allow you too. Solar was expensive when I installed it years ago, has paid off for me tho, now the panels are far cheaper just like these lights should be now. If these lights come out near 500 bucks they will get 3 sales out of me with it as I hate dealing with the fans in my current fixture. But if they charge over 600 bucks a fixture then I will continue to live with my fixture as it grows coral just fine. Seeing how you live in the Bay area I think you just might be used to paying way too much for everything.

I get it. Most people desire something that is slightly more than they feel they should pay. Especially when it comes to aquarium lighting. But here’s the thing. I don’t think many of you analysts on here have an idea of how massive of a company Philips is. Philips did 21.4 BILLION (with a B) in sales in 2019. Their aquarium light is a blip on their overall radar of what they do, but you have to expect they have certain pricing guidelines in place they would apply to this product just like any. I am certain it meets their expected percentage based on asking price vs manufacturing and distribution cost.

Real question, what does a $4600 brake kit consist of?

Most likely 6 piston calipers and large rotors. 4600 bucks is too cheap to be carbon ceramic rotors though, unless he got a good deal lol

I wasn't criticizing and said lighting companies can charge what they want if they can get it.
My point was if anyone can come in at a better price than the others it is Philips.
If they did they could take a good chunk of the market.

$498.99
look I can play price is right as well.!? Just kidding. But, I can tell you that if it is remotely in that price range then I would be buying them. Anymore than that and I think they join the look how much I can spend on lights grouping. I’d rather put the money into the coral I have with lights that I know grow coral well and don’t require financial sponsorships. I’m not complaining about price points either. I can afford all the high $ stuff, but I can’t convince myself to spend that on a light when I have halides,T5,and leds that all grow awesome stuff for a lot less. Great products are allowed to cost more, but they need to be more than a status thing to me. They need to do something the others can’t. If they want $900 there will be buyers, sure. But, there will be a lot of used G4’s on the market Around the same time they arrive as well.

There’s more used car dealerships in the average city than there are Ferrari dealerships in the US.
