For my long time controller users (Apex, GHL, etc...), how long do you hold on to a PH Probe. Had to replace a probe on one of my systems yesterday (self inflicted) and decided to calibrate the new and old ph probe running on another system since I had to make the ph calibration fluid.

Noticed the new probe changed state quicker than the old. New probe is a Apera non double junction running on an A2 Apex and old is an Pinpoint double junction running on a Apex classic and dates back to 2020 or so.

End game how long is the life of a probe, do we just wait for it to get lazy and not change state, or is there a certain point you just swap them out. I usually change when they get lazy, btw.

Tia!!

Really about a year in continuous immersion is really good. I've had some drift or become unusable after a month.

Single junction probes respond faster than a double junction.

Wow. I was waayyy off the mark for lifespan. The PH im not losing a ton of sleep over as they still calibrate. The ORP Probes on the other hand, probably need to replace those! Youngest is 3 years old this month. Trying to source quinhydrone in a not large amount has eluded me, so I can attempt calibration with Apex as I run ozone on one of the tanks.

Some probes will just work. They're not really designed for it.

As for calibration fluid, I buy the larger bottles on Amazon. You don't need a lot of it as long as you have a small vessel to cover the business end of the probe, and clean off any residue and flush it.

So I just replaced my GHL pH probe after 6 years.
The new probe after calibration is reading exactly what the old probe showed.

I don’t use high pH liquid, just bicarbonate so that may explain the extended life span. I also clean them once a month with citric acid… quick dip and wipe clean.

I replaced it because my conductivity probe just gave up, after 6 years.
