I got this exquisite wrasse delivered 3 weeks ago and he came out of the box with an already cloudy eye. I did 2 weeks of erythromycin, and at the tail end of that, when it didn't appear to be getting any better, I started Kanamycin and am on the 10th day of that with not really much improvement. It's hard to tell, but it might be a little better? I'm pretty sure he's blind in that eye, which is fine, but I want to make sure the infection is gone. He's doing great otherwise. He eats great and swims fine and acts normal. I already did two doses of Prazi via General Cure as well. Wondering what to do at this point. It was suggested to try Cipro baths. I do have Cipro on hand. The eye does not look terribly bad looking at it straight on, but at an angle it still looks very cloudy. Thoughts? Thanks

A few things- Do not use Cipro which is best for humans. Moving forward, general cure would have done nothing and was used unnecessarily. Add these things when absolutely needed. You medicated several things without addressing what was need. Stick with Maracyn which does work. If you used sole erythromycin, assure it was doed properly. If maracyn, it takes 5 -10 days applying one packet per 10 gallons.
In Video I see a very distressed wrasse who is breathing heavily and was subject to many meds and is in a tank with a lot of floating debris and I have to imagine the ammonia level is elevated.
I could not see the eye clearly due to waster stains on glass and milky water but suggest a good water change, addition of hang on power filter with the carbon removed from cartridge and trying Maracyn/erythromycin once again and also adding an air stone for added oxygen

Feel a little attacked here for no reason lol... I did what I did under the direction of humblefish. The tank is a tad cloudy but there is no ammonia. I've tested it frequently and have an alert badge. I've done 25% water changes every 48 hours prior to dosing the kanamycin. There's a hang on back filter (no carbon) and an air pump on the tank. General cure was used for the prazi in case of flukes. I used API erythromycin daily at the appropriate dose for 14 full days and it did nothing, which is why I then added on kanamycin.

The fish had just eaten quite a bit of food and he seems to overeat at once and was trying to get it down. He does not normally breathe heavily. Just trying to do what's best for the fish.

Attacking is not the intent and not sure where you got that impression. Ive merely pointed out mixing of meds, cloudy tank and trial and error which is a no-no and these are steps Humblefish will never suggest with mixing of meds.
I will never understand why others go on Humblefish and then resort to this site placing many of us the middlemen in two scenarios of treatment. Kanamyacin will work slower and the ethro is most effective for eye issues. The API product I do agree with for the eye issue.
Avoid overfeeding and eating is a good sign. Its easier to add food that to remove it. I have zero confidence in ammonia badge especially when exposed to the many meds it was. Invest in a reliable test kit such as Salifert or Hanna btand. Even verify your water by taking a water sample to a store that does NOT use Api kits and have them test your ammonia and nitrates and compare readings- then you'll know where your levels truly are at
I will never trust a $7 badge or $25 master kit to sustain hundreds of dollars in livestock.

Are you suggesting I do another 14-day treatment of erythromycin? There was zero improvement after the first 14 days of it.

Yes . Do water change and start treatment again and mix with no other meds. Also if you get a chance, please post pics or video under brighter white intensity to clearly see the eye. Fish is eating, which is a good sign. What foods are you offering it?
Also if opportunity allows, take a water sample to store and have it tested.

I have my own test kits and have been testing with zero ammonia, but I will continue to test. He's been getting either pe mysis, spirulina brine, or lrs reef frenzy, all soaked in selcon.

I'll try to get better pictures but it's difficult as he never stops moving.

Do you recommend doing a 25% water change before each erythromycin dose?

Foids are good
No need for frequent water changes unless test kits indicate immediate need

check for eye flukes... lots of flukes on eye will cause irritation which will lead to bacterial infection-- cloudy eye.. Treat with API Erythromycin

This is the best I could do. I slowed it down half speed because the fish is very fast.
You can see when he comes in at first, the eye looks like it has a cloudy top to it but looks less when viewed straight on.

This was great work. Wish it was longer and I can suspect these plastic plants may have been a culprit with injury and should be removed as some plastic has been known to leach into tank and also have sharp edges

I can take the plants out. Just thought it would make the fish in there more comfortable. He came out of the shipping bag with the eye already messed up, so the plants definitely didn't do that.

The eye seems to be a minor issue to me, at least from the first video. Does it seem to be getting worse? If not, you may have stopped the infection, but eyes take a long time to heal, and in some cases, the cloudiness is permanent.

The tank is cloudy with lots of food particles. Is that just transient issue?

The wrasse is breathing fast/deep. I saw the wrasse choking on food bits that it inadvertently breathed in. Is it eating well?

Again , in video, I thought eye would be worse. The eye may be from shipping bag, netting or light scratch.

It definitely hasn't gotten worse, but it doesn't seem to be getting better either. The QT tank is 29g and I only had it filled up to 20g and so the HOB filter was creating a lot of microbubbles. I think that has a lot to do with the perceived cloudiness and "particles" in the water, but I was feeding him in both videos to try and get him to come swim out. He hides whenever I go near the tank. He is eating very well. Always very eager to come out and eat.

He's definitely blind in that eye, which is how I now got this good video. He couldn't see me next to the glass. Do you think it's worth treating more, or do you think this is how it permanently looks?

I think you just need to give it time to see if it heals on its own. Do you think it could have a cataract? I can’t see clearly enough, but if the eye is cloudy at the center and not just on the surface, that could be a cataract.

To me, the cloudiness looks more surface level, like a film over the eye.
