Are these paly grandis? Leather coral forums believes so. Are these things super toxic? I’ll remove them if they’re going to make anything in my tank sick.

You should treat all zoas or palys the same, er on the side of caution when handling. Use proper PPE. They will not make anything in your tank sick.

I commented on your other thread. The shape appears to be a grandis but it’s super white which is unusual. All the bleached zoas I’ve seen become kinda transparant (as you mentioned in your other thread) so I’m excited to see how these pan out color-wise!

I have seen several posts about palytoxin lately. I have paly grandis living happily with my leather corals, both contain some toxin. They have been living this way for several years, I have never seen them affect each other. I use common sense when dealing with my tanks, gloves, glasses and put the dogs outside when I am doing anything inside the tanks. I have seen the reports of people getting sick from them, but we live in a world of things that are out to get us. For myself, I am more concerned about the way the cook at the restaurant is handling my food, I am pretty sure that more people become ill from food poisoning than have ever became ill from palys. There are many things in an aquarium that can make you ill, from the bacteria to the corals. I think you just need to pay attention and be careful.

It is grand is but appears bleached. Try adding a little iodine to tank.
Moderate light and water flow
Mine are huge

Me too. They’ve got a super light dusting of pink at their stalk but otherwise are ghost white. I saw the huge colony these were fragged off of and it’s white as a ghost as well.

If they end up being actually white palythoa grandis, I’d love a few polyps!

I would gladly send you a few if they turn out to be white. I honestly don’t think they’re bleached because it’s a milk white. It’s not that clear color most bleached coral gets.

Hey footgal, they’ve opened completely and the insides of the bell are solid ghost white. I don’t see any other color on them so here’s hoping they stay this way! I’ll send you pics in a bit.

Absolutely update!

Grandis are a particularly toxic member of the zoa/paly group, but they don't just ooze toxins willy-nilly. Don't cut yourself with something you've used to frag them, don't aerosolize them with violent scrubbing at the rock they're on, don't boil them, that sort of thing. Very much don't eat them.

Really hoping they stay white! Wouldn’t really mind if they colored up but the white is so different

I’ve never seen the white before, or any color other than green and brown. I’m super psyched for whatever they turn out to be! Grandis are awesome in whatever color, their size is so impressive!

Hey footgal, can I place zoa next to grandis or will the grandis sting the zoa? I’m new to Palys.
