Hi R2R,
On top of me living in Central Florida and my air conditioner being out since Thursday, my return pump is now on the fritz. The clips that hold the bottom together also just broke when I tried to clean the impeller, so now I've rigged it with zip ties.

Needless to say I'm looking for a new return pump. Anyone have any experience replacing your nuvo 40 return pump? Or, does anyone know of where to find some compatibility information? I know sicce is usually recommended but what size?

Will I need to replace the return hose also, or can I keep the stock Y configuration provided stock.

Thanks!!!

BC

I'm using an Eheim Compact+ 2000. I am not using the cage/guard because it won't fit into the chamber with it on. Though i do think once it's down there you can then put it on. I just didn't bother.

I kept the stock Y hose. The included barb on the Eheim is too large, but you can actually fit the hose inside the barb. It fits snugly. I've had no issues thus far and got the idea to use this pump (after breaking the clips on my stock pump too) from someone else using it.

I hear the Jebao DC3000 also fits.

Hey thanks for letting me know! You have a tank thread?

I've seen the compact+2000, but it shows discontinued on some websites so I was a bit iffy, but maybe I will look into it some more.
I found the Sicce series, but I want the 2.0 which is apparently a very tight fit based on some posts I've found. I don't want to deal with that because it's already cramped, so I'd have to step down to the 1.5 and that would reduce my flow. I do have two wave makers, so lowering the flow of the return would be fine I think.

I've been pretty happy with my Jebao wave makers, maybe I'll consider the dc3000. Less concerned about the cost vs it not breaking. The controller function of the DC3000 is VERY attractive though.

I don't have a build thread. But, there is a looong owners thread on that other forum which is where I got the idea.

I already had the compact+2000 from a previous tank so I figured I didn't have anything to lose. It's a tight fit, but doable. As for flow...i don't think it's any more/less than the stock pump, but I can't say 100% for sure. As long as you have good in tank flow, shouldn't be a huge issue.

My tank also came equipped with just the spin streams, which I think also reduces flow a bit.

I think if I didn't have the Eheim already I would have looked hard at the DC3000.

I have found that the spec on the waveline DC pump show it should fit but I can't find it to buy. I also am trying to find a new return pump for my Nuvo 40 with a higher turn over rate

I currently run a sicce 2.0 on mine but you could also run a 3.0; they have the same dimensions. They will fit but you kinda have to assemble it in the chamber.

But isn't the 3.0 have a 3/4 outlet? I thought about the 2.0 but is that a lower gph vs the stock pump?

I went with the Sicce 1.5. I have a skimmer in the back chamber so reduces flow means more stable water level for it. I've got 2 jebaos in the display so flow is no problem there. Happy with the purchase. It fits in the return no problem.

I use to have the Sicce 1.5 in my nuvo 40, fits well, silent and efficient.
I did try to fit the 2.0 but didn't work for me regardless I almost took all pieces apart.

That's correct, I remove the back and front parts as much as I can to keep it safe and functional but the space was very limited and I didn't want to force the pump causing breaking the glass so I just exchange it for the 1.5.

I was able to fit the since 2.0 after removing the flow adapter and the outer intake cover.. easy to put back on when in the middle chamber.
