Hi folks,

A set of three new wrasses arrived today courtesy of Dr Reef’s—two adorned and one McKosker’s (we’d ordered one of each but they sent two adorned). Our order also included a royal gramma. Since receiving them and running them through the acclimation process about 7 hours ago, the gramma is doing well, but all three wrasses seem to be struggling.

We’re currently fish only, building towards adding coral once the bio load is established. We double checked our tank parameters yesterday and everything looked solid:

Salinity 1.022
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 1ppm
Nitrite 0ppm

I’ve placed a video (please ignore the unhappy toddler) and a couple photos. Anything look wrong there? Thanks in advance IMG_8877.jpeg IMG_8873.jpeg

Salinity is a little low but not a danger. How did you acclimate and for how long?
In addition, not uncommon for wrasse to di this upon tank introduction but reduce white intensity and add air stone for increased aeration.
Is it breathing normal or rapid?
I assume you are using API master kit. Dont worry about Nitrite level and retest in the morning.

Thanks for the response! We followed this acclimation guide to the letter: https://drreefsquarantinedfish.com/acclimation-guide/

We’ve kept the lights off (other than for taking photos/video for this post). Breathing seems a bit rapid, but not the fastest we’ve seen. Gramma’s breathing is fine.

We use Red Sea kits for ammonia, Nyos for nitrate, and Salifert for Nitrite. Milwaukee refeactometer.

EDIT: we also have air stones in both acclimation tanks.
