The water in my tank has been very cloudy for about a week due to a bacterial bloom. I purchased a UV Sterilizer which has been running for 24 hours now. The water is still very cloudy with no signs of even a small change. There is very little water coming out of the UV Sterilizer, is this normal? How long does it take for the water to clear up? Thanks

More info needed. Size and brand of uv. Size of total water volume. Pump size supplying water to UV.
Is UV plumbed by its own pump or shared with other flow by valve or tee ?
30 gallon tank. Green Killing Machine UV Sterilizer for up to 50 gallons. It’s plumbed on its own and has its own pump

yea its just not a powerful pump , ill hook mine up once home and send a vid i have largest model
The manual states that water flow may seem abnormally slow but this is necessary to give the water enough time inside the lamp chamber to sterilize

GPH for the pump is 50 and GPH for the UV lamp is 37… what do you mean “did you figure head pressure when sizing pump”?
This is a very small unit. if your number are 100% accurate, you are running too much water through the unit. The max the unit can kill algae at is 37 gph.
The picture is very blue, do you have sand in tank? Do you have live rock in system. What is your primary biological filter? How long has this tank been set up ?

Those units don't pump a lot of water gph wise, also run it horizontally for a few minutes so it can prime properly. They are notorious for having air packed as the pumps aren't that strong to begin with. I've ran them with good results and currently use the 24w model on my 50g cube with 20g sump. I've also used the 9w unit on an aio for a few years.

Are you sure the bulb is working? And are you sure its a bacterial bloom your dealing with?
They have a green light on the adapter pack to let you know if the bulb is kaput. If the green bulb is on, the light circuit is being completed (powered).
