New to hobby! My setup right now...

Hello everyone,

For some time now, I’ve been exploring the idea of setting up a saltwater aquarium. I’m a beginner in this area, so I’d really like to hear your experiences with different systems and brands. I understand that sometimes this can be like comparing an iPhone to a Samsung, or a BMW to an Audi, with plenty of personal preferences involved. Nonetheless, your experiences are valuable to me in making a decision. For me, the following factors are important:

• noise, the less the better.
• aesthetics. Ideally, I don’t want equipment sticking out above the aquarium, as can happen with AIO setups.
• focus on minimizing water changes, not out of laziness, but as a challenge because it’s possible. Of course, in the beginning it's necessary to do water changes.
• Maximum width of 95 cm and depth of 50 cm. Height is not as important.

Based on these criteria, I’ve narrowed it down to two sump systems: Waterbox Marine X 90.3 & Red Sea Reefer 250 G2+ combined with the following equipment:

• Tunze type DOC9012 DC / Deltec Skimmer 400i.
• 2x AI Hydra32 +mountingarm
• 2x Coral Box Quiet Pump Wavemaker QPS5
• Jecod DCP-2500 (nog controller nodig?)
• Eheim ThermoControl 150w
• RedSea ATO+ for the RS and a Jecod ATO 150 for the Waterbox Marine.

For now I will focus on simple corals and fish. Think of two clownfish, a nice clean-up crew, beginner corals, like zoanthids, green star polyp, some leather coral etc. A yellow tang is a small dream for the future, but I think these tanks are just too small for this and for now I do not have the ambition to enlarge this tank because of the place where the aquarium will be placed.

What are your thoughts about this setup? Any tips or recommendations?

Hi and welcome to R2R
To me it seems a good choice of equipment, as I was reading through your post a sump system would have been my recommendation if you want to keep it visually tidy.
Noise wise I wouldn’t be able to comment, maybe someone else could chip in.

Just my 2 cents , but I would not set up a RedSea tank in my house. Not even if you paid me to do it.

Just search these forums, 3 simple words, RED SEA FAIL, and hit search button, you will be amazed.

I'm Old Skool, When I set up my next tank, if it is not a monster custom built 1200g with 800g sump (Ya I am thinking about it, HARD!!) I would start looking for a Used OCEANIC tank in what ever size I wanted and use it.

In the last 10-ish years I have managed to buy a 90g bow front, 3x 125g 6fts, 120 4ft, 180g 6ft and my baby, my 8ft 300g All Oceanic Tanks, so they are out there if you look.
