So after seeing @CastAway potters wrasse I instantly wanted one for my tank. Thanks Jeff [emoji13]

Here she is. She's a big gal too. About 4 1/2 inches.

However my big boss Tomini tang isn't a fan of her at all! He's shown lots of aggression. So to try to combat that as she try's to settle in I've placed a mirror at the end of the tank. Needless to say he hasn't left it. I feel bad but it's giving the potters (named her Kia. Which is Hawaiian meaning "comes from the sea") time to establish her own territory.

Fingers crossed.

Beautiful fish! Leigh Ann wants a Blue Star Leopard Wrasse but I hear they are difficult,...are the Potters considered difficult also? I have read several horror story about people adding them to their tank and they burrow in the sand to never be seen again.

Yea they are labeled expert care due to primary eating pods I think. They do burrow in the sand at night for protection. I saw her burrow last night when the lights went off and she came right out when they came on this afternoon. However I have heard of them burrowing for like 5-7 days too.

Mine will lay on the bottom and stir the sand like crazy, then, swim around eating out of the suspended detritus. Very cool. Eats out of the water column too, when I feed.

Has really made me rethink my current stock. I want more wrasses!

Congrats Caleb!

Thanks everyone! She's settling in great. The mirror trick worked great with my tang! I removed it today and he no longer shows aggression toward her.

However I realize I'll have to deal with occasional sand storms on my reef now lol

The leopard wrasses of all species tend to not ship very well and a lot of times have mouth injuries which get infected and may keep them from eating. The theory seems to be that when they're bagged, they instinctively try to dive into the sand to burrow, and since there is none there end up hurting themselves. A lot of wholesalers and LFS will also try to keep them in bare bottom tanks or with crushed coral that is too coarse for them to burrow into leading to more stress and potential injury. I've only ever had one leopard for any length of time, and she was great from the start. She ate at the LFS and only hid about a half day once I had her home. I think it's very important with them to make sure they are eating to ensure the best chance of success.

I'd love to luck out with a Potter's leopard one day. I've seen them at my LFS, but never eating. Checking back, the shop almost always tells me they refused to eat and died.
