Hello my fellow reefers!

I wanted to ask your opinion if adding a Neptune Sky to a Fluval EVO is an absolute overkill? Today I run an AI Prime 16HD, although powerful due to the shape, I have some shadows in the tank that I would like to get rid-off, I’m thinking on the Neptune Sky because I run an Apex and like the idea to control everything through the Fusion app. Thanks as always for your advise.

Total waste of money and electricity.Maybe your scape is causing the shadows? That prime should be more than enough.
You really think that sky is using THAT much more electricity than an AI Prime? I would bet the cost would be so small you wouldn’t even notice. It’s more powerful but it’s still just an LED

with that said. It’s way overkill for your system. You’d be better off adding another prime to address your shadowing.

I thought the Apex was compatible with all sorts of things? You can’t control any other brand of lights with it? That’s booty

Yes I do...The wattage of both fixtures tell me that.

No such thing as overkill with leds that adjust. Just turn it down to your tanks level and use it for the upgrade down the road.

I looked at your build pics. That said the 1 16hd is plenty, imo.
What are your 16hd settings?
Increasing the intensity should get rid of the shadows.
I ran 2 in a 20g 18" cube with good results.

If you want overkill check out my nano build.

Unfortunately no, the AI Prime is not Apex ready, some others are but I kinda like the Neptune Sky. I do have to say that AI’s controlling app. Is very cool.

Your tank looks great, love the fact that you’re using halides.

My settings are all blues at 35, white at 19, green and red at 35, and moonlight at 0. I do have the PAR readings I want though.

Maybe an Apex ready hydra 32, in a peninsula setting could do the trick as well.

Thanks,

Maybe it's just me but dropping $900 on a light to run it at 20% is just crazy.

You wouldn’t notice the cost difference from month to month. If I cared about electricity down to that degree I wouldn’t have a reef tank at all. That would be like buying a F250 for the gas mileage.
