what is the best sump to get for a 56g column tank? It is fish only right now but I'm planning on building a reef tank. When I bought my equipment, the guy recommended a canister filter. However, in my research, i found that a canister filter is the wrong choice for a reef system. I want to know what size and what brand is best. Any suggestions would be appreciated

It's really more a matter of finding the right sump to fit your need. Take a look at Trigger Systems and Synergy Reef systems. Both make very nice gear on the high end of the scale. You can also DIY one pretty easily with a tank, some glass panes and silicone for peanuts. It all boils down to your size and function requirements.
