Need help with knowing what kind of coral this is and what’s wrong

I got this coral from someone who was going to throw it out and does not know what it is and what’s wrong and I would really love to save the little guy, any help would be much appreciated I can’t find any pictures of this coral anywhere and what it should look like and what’s wrong with it.

Very hard to tell in that condition but maybe a Duncanopsammia frag in very poor condition.

Try one of the commercial coral dips. Looks like STN, maybe with a bacterial infection too.

Dip it, put it in a clean and healthy tank then wait and see.

Low to moderate lighting and flow to start with.

It looks like a Duncan to me, how long has it been in the tank?

For about 2 hours, I just got it from someone and if it has a bacteria infection could that infect my others in the tank?

This is too smooth to be a hammer and is a duncan. It is almost fully receded and may or may not come back. It will require proper alk and CA and salinity to have a chance

I agree it is Duncan..

I have good experience with Brightwell MediCoral Coral Dip on frags that didn't look that great. Your LFS might carry it.

It's hard to say whether it will make it or not! I have a Duncan in my tank that has closed and opened many times over the past two years. Multiple times I have thought I was going to lose it (even lost a head at one time), and if it was not glued to my rockscape I would have taken it out and dipped it. With that said, I didn't dip it and it was able to make it on its own and is now thriving again. I would probably let it settle for some time longer since 2 hours is a very short time! That is my opinion, hope it helped!

I can 2nd that it is almost likey a Duncan.

I had one that looked just like that about a month ago.
I moved it to less flow and gave it some time as I was busy with work.

it did not survive.
