Need help with Fiji Cube nsk-50 skimmer please

I bought a fiji cube nsk-50 skimmer for my waterbox 25 peninsula. It came with 2 mounting brackets. I have set the brackets to raise the skimmer up as high as it will go on my tank in the back chamber. It sticks out quite a ways but still just fills the collection cup in about 10 seconds. You are also supposed to be able to adjust it by turning the skimmer body so I turned it the way that lowers the water level. It also was supposed to come with a dc pump with an adjuster on the cord to fine tune with but there is not an adjuster on the cord like in the picture. Anyone familiar with this and can offer some insite?
