I went to my local petco today to find nassarius snails. The employee for one thought these were astria snails…. I knew better about the two but he threw this other one in saying it was a small nassarius also. Upon closer inspection, the shell is different and so is it’s foot. Any ideas? Is he good or bad? @vetteguy53081

Does this snail have operculum? I think all whelks have it so that could be a clue. Unfortunately for me quality of the photo isn't enough good to take a closer look to it's shell. :)

All whelks do have an operculum. All nassarius snails are also whelks. So nassarius snails have opercula and this feature alone does not differentiate them from carnivorous/predatory whelks.

There are so many different types of whelks collected/sold these days (including the few nassarius varieties that are safe for our tanks) that I wouldn't risk it. As you already know, the 2 larger ones are fine :)

I put the other one in the old 5g to live it’s life out with the satanic damsel and the green star polyps :face-with-tears-of-joy:

The only real threat it (possibly) poses is to other snails...

There’s 3 astrias in there so we will see what happens. The substrate should keep it busy for a while… hopefully
