To start off I’m a fresh water guy so please forgive my ignorance but my wife has a 40 gallon breeder and she does plan to upgrade her tank in the future. But she currently has 2 clown fish, a star gazing blenny, a blue buffalo tang, a small thing of pulsating xzenia, and two bubble anemones. The tank has been set up for 5months no algae blooms as of now. It has a canister filter rated for a 100gal tank a power head I don’t know the size and a in tank protein skimmer. The problem is with the bubble anemones they have been in there for over a month and they won’t stop moving and won’t find a happy place. I have watched hours of videos and filters through a lot of the bta threads but to no solution. I can give a full tank build shortly also we tested all of the parameters and nothing was high. They were master test kits I don’t trust the strips. I’m hoping someone can cast some light on the subject on this matter please. A food list would be awesome and anything I can’t test for to make them blossom would be awesome I’m about to clear the Lfs shelf of coral stuff to make them thrive! And thanks ahead of time for the help

From my understanding nems move whenever they want to. If that is not something you like, I suggest staying with only fish and coral. I don’t have nems for the same reason, they move and sting coral. Welcome!

Welcome to the reef.

Sorry I can't help with your traveling anemome problem but I can relate. I had an RBTA in my first tank too. It eventually split then one of the now 2 nems split again. So now I had 3 of them crawling around. Eventually 1 died behind the rock work and I had to take part of the aquascape apart to get it out. The constant moving around is why they make nem guards for power heads so they dont get sucked through. I don't keep them anymore because of this, even though I really love them. I do want to do a strictly nem tank someday in the future, just nems and Nemos. For now though I have a starry blenny that loves to roll around in my alveopora. Not quite clowns in nems but it will suffice.

Either way welcome to the reef.

You can not stop them from moving. To put it simply: most corals are “plant like” and anemones are more “animal”. They will go where they want, whenever they want. They might stay in one spot for days, weeks, months, then decide to move. If you put them back, they will just move again. There really isn’t anything you can do to control them. They might move behind all your rock and decoration so you can’t see them. They might go upside down under a ledge or shelf. They might go on the glass. They really do whatever the heck they feel like once they get in “mobile mode”

Welcome to R2R! As several have noted in the thread nems do what nems want for the most part. I’ve been fairly lucky so far that my bta has spot it likes. I also have a Black Widow bubble nem that took a walk in the underside. Of the rocks in back it’s now popping up again after disappearing for a few weeks. As far as feeding I give a mix of meatier and greener frozen and all seem to enjoy it including the anemones.

Welcome! Let the coral addiction begin! Nems….. I had a period of running lights very low (like moonlight low) because of a bloom and my stupid rock flower nem crawled all over my tank like it was a BTA. As a few others have said, it could just be your particular nem likes to wander. It could also be a lighting issue. What lights is she running and at what strength? This is going to be important for coral health down the road as well.
