I just ordered my first tank and supplies and can’t wait to get started! This will be my first ever saltwater and reef tank experience. Currently, art is my hobby and I’m looking forward to not only creating a beautiful canvas in my tank, but also having a beautiful colorful reef tank as the subject of some future paintings!

I have decided to start my journey with the following:
  • Fluval Saltwater Flex 32.5 Gallon with matching Stand in black.
  • Fluval Marine 3.0 Bluetooth LED with App Control
  • Fluval PS1 Protein Skimmer
  • Fluval M 150 Watt Submersible Glass Heater
  • Fluval PF2 Programmable Fish Feeder
  • Vivid Creative ½” Loc Line RFG
  • InTank Media Basket
  • Jebao Wavemaker with Controller
  • Tetra Whisper Air Pump
  • Wooden Air Diffusers
  • Aquatic Life RO Buddie Plus DI
  • Natures Ocean Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Reef Sand 20lbs
  • Reel Reef Rock 20 lbs
  • Base Dry Live Rock 15 lbs
  • Red Sea Coral Pro Sea Salt Mix
  • FritzZyme Turbo 900
  • Maxspect Bio-Spheres
I figure this will get me started and cycling my tank. Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything. I’m already making shopping lists for the next stages. I will post photos when everything arrives and I get it set up. I’m thinking about posting my tank’s journey on YouTube, we’ll see when we get to that point.
Wish me luck

***UPDATE***
I just recently got my tank and have been cycling.
I plan to have 4 fish, CUC (shrimp, snails, crabs) but mostly soft, LPS and some SPS corals.

Did I aquascape too high?

For those that are using the lid, where do you run your cables so it will sit like it's supposed to? I'm thinking about making some notches for my powerhead and the light cable.

How many powerheads are you using and what placement have you found the best?

I think your scape looks pretty awesome. I just run all of my cables out the back in the middle sump chamber. They left it open to be able to do so. What is the air pump for?
For an air stone. It was recommended in this video

Oh ok, I am not sure if that will be completely necessary especially with the skimmer but if it works for you then great! Bubbles popping at the top in the rear chamber will probably cause a bit of salt spray/creep. I have never seen the wooden blocks but maybe they make smaller bubbles that help combat the spray?

Awesome start! Me personally, I would not add an airstone. I would let the skimmer handle that part. Your scaping skills are great! I am sure you will change it about 1000 times until you are really happy, I try to "set it and forget it" but I still thank I can do better!

Oh, and everyone has room for a 300! You just might have to see what you can do with out, like in my case, its in my bedroom, and I have no dresser!! lol

Thanks, It's epoxy and glued together so I think its kind of set and forget for now.

I haven't put the skimmer in because I've heard the one that came with the kit isn't worth fish poo.

DEC 11, 2020 Update
I'm rather bummed. Decided I'm ready to try a few fish. I don't have a LFS nearby so I ordered from Bluezooaquatics.com. I ordered a couple Benggai Cardinals, and Goby shrimp pair for me, some fish for my daughter and opted for the free poly grab bag which is described as, "You will receive 4 colonies of; assorted color zoanthids, green star polyps, xenia or anthelia, button polyps, clove polyps, glove polyps or yellow polyps." My fish didn't come and were created as a separate order to come later. Daughter's enjoying hers. But I have no idea what the frags are or if they are ok. I went ahead and followed acclimation and dipping and put them in the tank. Any idea what I've received and if they look ok?
