I've been seriously considering getting a new larger display tank and I finally have my wife on board (sort of). I want a 180, she wants me to get a 90.... We negotiated out to a little bigger than a 125. She doesn't want me to put in a 6' as she thinks the room is too small. I am considering putting in a 5' long but the standard 125 tall is 24" tall and I don't want to go that high (arm is not long enough). I am considering getting some quotes and having one built 60"x24"x22". Standard 125 tall is 60"x18"x24". The stand for a 150 tall would work as they are 60"x24". I'm going to talk to glass cages as they are in state. I know reef savvy is quality stuff as I have seen Chris' tank and my 45 cube is one of theirs. Don't really have much experience in buying a tanks... Looking for any recommendations... I will probably use my existing equipment as far as lighting and my sump, skimmer, pump, vortecs, etc. I always tried to buy oversized in anticipation of an eventual upgrade. The only must have is a ghost, or synergy reef shadow style overflow (the ability to add one glass cages has already said they can do it). I am not set on glass or acrylic.. Here is the wall I have to work with.

Have to go rimless? I preordered a Synergy Reef "Ghost" overflow and will pick up a 125 standard braced tank, all for $540. A custom tank will cost much more. You could do pick up a non-RR 120 for about the same. Otherwise, yeah, you probably have to go custom. Glass Cages is also another idea, no experience with their tanks personally though. Good luck!

Actually I want to run a canopy. I just like the way they look. 5' 150 is 24" tall and I don't want anything that tall. 21" or 22" tall is as high as I want to go. On the two quotes I have gotten back they have not been what I would consider that high. Seems like there is a big price jump between 5' and 6'.

If you want a 4' tank, rimless, 80 something, something (I don't remember but it is a well-known manufacturer), LMK. I'm considering dumping mine altogether but am still on the fence in making a decision. Lots of travel planned next year and the tank may be a liability. It is totally loaded with very colorful SPS/LPS and some zoas and some hard-to-get fish as well.

I like that tank almost exactly the size I was looking for. I may call them next week and see if they can make one sans overflow. I have to have wood color stand to somewhat match our flooring. Love the red Sea stuff but white or black won't work for the wife. The SCA 150 is mighty tempting for the price as well... That's a smoking deal...

Yeah.. I plan on this being my last tank. I just don't have the time or desire to maintain something huge. 75 is really big enough but I want a different overflow (I want it dead silent and safe from overflow). If I am going to get another tank might as well get bigger right... I would also like more room in my stand. I have a quote on an acrylic right now that I am really tempted to pull the trigger on. 60"x24"x22". I'm pretty much done stocking fish and nothing I have grows too big for a 75. I really like synergy reefs design and anything else for me would be settling. On the other hand I have no experience with acrylic and I am a bit nervous about scratching it. I keep going back and forth...

Another custom manufacturer I'd recommend is Miracles. Don't have any personal experience with them but everything I have read about their custom tanks has been top notch.
I once got a quote from them for a 150 gal tank. I'll see if I can find it.

Miracles was $1000 more than Reef Savvy . A few of the places I pinged never got back with me. Midwest custom aquariums make some nice stuff from looking at pictures of their tanks. I haven't been able to find a bad review either.. I'm leaning heavy toward an acrylic.

I've had acrylic tanks, and I really enjoy them, I used a Mr clean magic eraser in place of a mag float.

One thing i will say, they are the hardest things ever to get rid of. Lol. So make sure it's a decision you can live with.

Really?? Wow that's a surprise! When I priced my setup RS was going to be at least a couple grand more than Miracles. Wonder what's changed?!
