My new cube

I got my cube today and set it up in my bedroom. Wife decided it was too big to go in the spot the biocube currently resides in so I set it up in a corner. The cabinet covers about 3/4" of one of the floor registers. I am thinking about putting a magnetic cover on half of it. It's actually not a bad thing as I won't have to rush this tank into use.

I rotated it so the over flow is in the back right but I will have to cut a new hole in the stand to use it like this. I want to take my time and try and think of everything.

Its is 24x24x18. I just had a uh oh moment though. It's half inch glass and I don't know if my MP10 is going to work on it.... I was reading the specs and they say 3/8" and below.

My wife has already informed me that this needs to be as quiet as the bio cube. I am thinking of using a Herbie style overflow and run a return over the top (unless someone has a better idea). I hate having something ran over the top but I was thinking if I put it against my light mount it may not be too noticeable.

The Rock was in another reef tank a while ago and there is still a few crispy critters stuck to it. I'm thinking about giving it the water hose and scrub brush treatment and then letting it become live in the tank. Only thing I'm worried about is the possibility of rotten fish smell. I've got a spare brute can.... If it's not going to stink than I would rather throw it in the tank.

+1 to a muriatic acid bath. To take it a step further do a lanthanum chloride bath after that until your PO4 (if any) is down to 0 and you should be safe to introduce the rocks I to your DT. After seeing the results I had with both these methods I will never introduce any new rock without the two treatments.

This isn't new rock as in fresh out of the ground its from a reef tank. Just a tank that was torn down and the rock allowed to dry out. From what I have read I thought the acid bath was only for fresh out of the ground stuff. This should have already leached what it's gonna leach.

I used a couple pieces of rock from another tank in my 75 but the rest came from reef cleaners and all they recommend is rinsing before adding. I didn't soak it or treat any of it. I run Chempure and puregen in both my tanks and have never seen a phosphate reading but I have only checked a couple times in 8 months. I haven't really had any reason to check.... I can soak this in acid but I would think any dead organisms still in the rock would help fuel the nitrogen cycle?

Awesome!! Christal and I was just looking at a 60g cube today that aquatic marine has to replace her/our biocube 14!!

I agree I like the last scape, the coldarre look with sand would appear like the mouth/top of a dormant sunken volcano which adds to the allure of the tank!
If you have a way to hide an airline, you could bury a wooden airstone in the dead center of that and turn it on with a air pump from time to time when you have guests, and it will appear that the volcano is releasing steam or super heated water and is venting. Man that would be awesome.

Just wish I had thought of it first. lol . If you don't use that scape... Im totally stealing it. But if you do I wont copy you!
