Wanted to show off what I’ve been working on the past two months or so as its finally coming together!
Got this tank on craigslist for free 75gallon bowfront. It had a leak so the old owner replaced it. I scraped off all the old silicone and resealed it myself.
The first fill test. I let the silicone cure a full long week before filling. I was nervous but it was a success!
Testing out my Hipargero lights. I like em, we’ll see how they work
The most expensive single purchase I made ironically, a whole bunch of rocks. 100lbs of Marco reef saver + some flat rocks for a NSA scape inspired by BRS on youtube
which I then promptly took and smashed into tiny pieces (intentionally). Time to aquascape!
This is actually before I smashed em up. I was gonna do it in my apartment but decided to be a good neighbor and took it all to my parents instead. I should have assumed it would be way too loud.
Its coming together, I ended up not using the arch as I made it (way) too big on accident, but it all looks good!
I dont even remember what I was doing here
Built my own sump with a 20gal aquarium, some plexiglass and a lot of silicone. Featuring art my girlfriend drew of animals she would’ve probably preferred over fish.
She’s in! And it better work cause its not comin out easy. Not sure why I was frowning but surely I had good reason.
Finally filling the tank for real!
I’d rather not say how long the living room looked like this. On the plus side, it made it feel really neat once it was all cleaned up. Shoutout to my roommate for the patience!
Absolutely dying with anticipation here.
She’s filled, time to cycle with Fritz Turbo start (which did a beautiful job btw)
the wait is over! Introducing Buggy and Bozo! At the time of writing this they’ve been in the tank a few weeks and are doing good. They eat voraciously now and already seem bigger. I did not quarantine them but have a QT tank setup for all later additions. Hopefully this impatient decision doesn't bite me.
I really like these guys. Beautiful and a joy to watch.
Moonlight setting.
My daylight setting and most recent photo of the tank. As you can see I bought a frogspawn and LPS coral. In hindsight I should have waited out the ugly stage I’m sure, but I didn't. Fish store told me they're hardy and I hope they're right. We’ll see how they fare.
Thanks for checking out my build! I’m super excited to continue the process of building a beautiful reef. It sucks that I’m broke now but its all worth it to make this happen, dreams don't have a price right? If anyone happens to have great deals on fish or coral in Austin, Texas feel free to reach out because stocking this thing is seriously gonna run me dry haha
