Ahh, my first tang! I’m super excited about this guy. I have been looking around for a bristle tooth for a bit and finally one of my local shops got one in. I’m thinking he’s a square tail bristletooth, but I’m not positive. He’s already going to town on my hair algae, and wasn’t shy in helping himself to the frozen food. This guy will definitely be the king of the tank as I only have two clowns, a lawnmower blenny a six line and a little cardinal. They are all terrified still but I’ve never had a problem with any aggression in my tank.

For those that have these guys in your tank, what has been your experience? My tank is a 75g but I’ll be upgrading to a 125-180 at the end of the year. He’s about 2.5 to 3 inches at the moment. IMG_0170.jpeg

I've never kept that tang species. But, with all tangs I have kept,
Purple, scopas, clown, chocolate, sailfin, powder blue, and hippo tang.

They don't read rule books and do as they please.. Keep them well fed and a variety of foods. Meaty and veggies. You'll thank yourself later.

definitely will, thank you! He’s sitting on a variable buffet for algae eaters. I’ve been going through a pretty big gha outbreak, but I’ll definitely be feeding nori and frozen shrimp

Really? I thought the yellow needed at least a125!? I’ve been eyeing one for a while now! That will be my next purchase!
I had NP in a 65g. Fish maxed at 4” so same size as a bristle tooth. He’s 5 years plus old. Best clean up fish ever designed IMM.

I think yellows are fine in these smaller waters as it doesn’t grow to sizes like blues, sailfins and is not overly aggressive so mixes with others well.

That is awesome! They are so pretty. I definitely need help with cleanup at the moment. As you can see, my rocks are experiencing a pretty robust algae outbreak. I am still recovering from my last bout of Dino so I’ll take the algae any day.

I remember snorkeling in Hawaii

And they were the size of plates

Must have been all the peas the tourists fed them

That's the comment of the year, once you had dinos algae is nothing.
Lucky you, my bristletooth never ate hair algae and he got moved on when he went nuts on my new flame angel.

Glad you mentioned it, I was wondering if it was a bristle tooth based on body shape and colors but wasnt sure

He’s got a full-time job ahead if he’s gonna knock this stuff down. I’m hoping he will make a little bit of a dent, but I’m trying to take care of Ashley prior to treating with flux.

Seriously? The guy at the shop promised me it was a bristle tooth. Is he not what was advertised?
I never kept these fish. Youll need brighter light, maybe a video posted on youtube for correct id.

And if its a dusso, they aren't cheap to get. As far as I know.
