Hello everyone,
I’m thrilled to finally be part of this amazing forum! I’ve been learning a lot from reading other threads and can’t wait to share my own experience as a beginner. I’m here to learn, connect with fellow reefers, and get advice as I continue my pico reef journey.
I’m excited to share my pico reef journey with the community! As a complete beginner in the world of saltwater aquariums, I decided to take on the challenge of setting up a pico reef. It’s been an incredible learning experience, and after a month of careful nurturing, I’m starting to see some life and growth in the tank.
Instead of going through the traditional cycling process, I used the skip-cycling method to quickly establish a stable environment in my pico reef. By adding live rock and live sand from the beginning, I was able to introduce hardy corals soon after setting up the tank. So far, the tank has been stable (imo).
As a beginner, learning how to balance the needs of my pico reef has been both rewarding and challenging. The skip-cycling method allowed me to get things started quickly, but it also meant staying extra diligent with water parameters and maintenance. Through trial and error, I’ve learned the importance of patience and consistency in this hobby.
In the coming weeks, I’m planning to add a small fish and more corals to my pico reef, ensuring that the tank remains stable enough to support the new additions. I’d love to hear any advice or suggestions from more experienced reefers as I continue to expand my setup.
If you’d like to see more of my pico reef and follow along with the journey, feel free to check out the first episode of my YouTube series!
Thanks for reading, and I’m looking forward to connecting with the community and learning from everyone’s experiences!
