Hello,
I have a red Goni with a blue centre of the polyps. It’s from an aquacultured source and the photo here shows it in the display tank.
As you can see, it’s completely closed up and has been for about a week. Just to the left and above it is are 2 alveopora that look in great health. They were put in at the same time.

At the level of the Goni, PAR is about 150.
Nitrates around 10 to 20, phosphates are around 0.005 and calcium at 410 PPM.

Any ideas why it is not happy?

Thanks

Nothing I can see picking and the alveoporas are fine.
Flow is medium and random. Enough to make the alveo sway around top right a gorgion (sp?) that is also in same flow pattern and loves it.

Phosphate too low, dont believe 0.005. Bring it up to 0.1ppm.
maybe dose some manganese. That ora red is the easiest goni imo. Alveoprera are more forgiving.

Might just be getting settled, mine opened up for a day after I got them, Closed for like a week, and now they're constantly open.

@Pistondog, thanks. Dosing Mn already (due to ‘not detected’ on ICP a month ago).
PO4 is 5 ppb but on the green Hanna checker (ULR). I’m trying to move it up and dosing to 100ppb every week, but it depletes hard.

For all else. Thanks for advise. How long should I wait before really worrying? 2 weeks?

A month! Wow. So they can live in that state for a long time.
I’ll keep calm and carry on for a couple more weeks then.
Thanks

Closed like that is ok

Watch for tissue receding and skeleton exposure beginning. That’s the bad sign

If 2 weeks goes by and it doesn’t open even a tiny bit more then I would suggest to move it to a new spot with low flow and medium light and wait 2 more weeks

I’ve had them close randomly for a month

pffffft, only a month?
i’ve had amazeballs close up for close to 6 months,
on two separate occasions!

also had gonis completely bail,
leaving only a white skeleton behind…
that have come back from death!

(they’re sensitive but resilient too!)

As others have said, it can take weeks for gonis to get happy.
I Fed reef roids a couple times a week when my po4 was low.
