Hi all, I just have a bit of a weird question regarding a mushroom vs tuxedo urchin, my question isn't answered on here that I can find.

Can a mushroom eat an urchin?
The reason I ask, is because I was looking to see where my urchin was, and I found it totally wrapped up in my mushroom. So I peeled the edge of the mushroom back a bit and yep it was there inside, will it be eaten?

More than likely the urchin is carrying the mushroom. I haven’t seen one get cold and use a shroom blanket before but hey, you do you little fashionista urchin. Lol I’ve seen urchins pick up and carry all sorts of corals. I would guess the shroom got pulled off the frag by the urchin

I can assure you the urchin hasn't knocked the shroom off its still attached to the rock it has been on for the last 2 years. The urchin spines although short have punctured the mushroom. It looks like its letting go a bit more now.

The urchin most likely bulldozed it's way across the mushroom and the coral closed up in response and was large enough that it just closed right around the urchin. Urchins aren't exactly fast so I have no idea how it got so deep inside the mushroom. This is wild, I hope the mushroom ends up alright

I'm thinking the red leg hermit pushed it off the rocks because it's eating all its algae, I think it's all good now, as the Urchin has escaped, the mushroom doesn't look too happy though. 20240704_205301.jpg 20240704_205941.jpg I'll check the mushroom tomorrow once the lights come back on. Fingers crossed it'll be OK.
