Any specific name for this blue mushroom?

I bought four of them about 4 weeks ago when they just came into my LFS, so they were shriveled up… for $10 a shroom, so I took a shot.

Now, they’ve gotten rather big I think, 3-4” wide.

It has formed kind of a fold midway… is it going to divide?

Thanks.

Hello!

This is a standard blue stripped discosoma mushroom, though a very beautiful piece of coral!

Usually in my experience growing discosomas for the last 10 years is they will only split with pedal lasceration instead of a full clone split. So only pieces of its foot will regrow into a new mushroom.

Also, be aware they will agressively colonize and are a PITA to remove from the aquarium if footed on the rocks.
They will also kill almost anything they touch.

Well that kind of answers my next question… whether or not to frag it.

Given that it’s common and can get out if control, I’ll just keep the 4 as they are.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah mushrooms can be tricky to frag and they release a lot of slime you need to contend with. (Best done out of the tank)
If the foot isnt evenly attached to a piece of small rock or frag plug, a good clean mushroom frag is very hard to obtain without then having to help it attach in a container of rubble after healing.
