Mel

What do you mean "destroy one system". If you mean "most everything died" you are not alone. In fact, anybody that has had a reef system, for much of any time, as probably lost most everything at least once. A heater goes crazy and you bought another "better"heater and it went bad so now you think it would be better to have a monitor/controller, a swing arm has failed and you bought a better instrument, you left town and the person in charge did not do (fill in the blank) or did do (fill in the blank) and you came back to a tank that looked nothing like you left it, or something else. In fact, i would almost say that if you, an instrument, a friend/spouse, the power, has not messed up your tank, you have not had it long enough for it to cycle. Ha! HA!!!

Welcome to the hobby ---- It is not an expensive hobby for just one reason.

We are a friendly group. If you are in the Knoxville area give us a holler and maybe come to a club meeting. Other club's members and new folks are always welcome.

You hopefully learned a lot from your first system. Do not make the same mistakes. Oh, what am I saying - I still make the same mistakes on some things. I got water on the floor just this morning trying to acclimate some maxi minis. Seem to do that about 1/2 the times I try it.

Take advantage of the knowledge and experience found on forums and in your local club.

You can PM me and I can tell you what not to do. Ha! HA!! HAAA!!!!!

Again Welcome

150 colonies and frags -- Wow that is like one of those videos on "America's funniest videos" -- it almost hurts just to think about it, or in the case of the TV show to watch.

Well, the question "are you knew to the hobby" is irrelevant if you had 150 colonies or frags. I hope anyway

Hope things go better with your next try. Are you using the same tank and other hardware? What are you going to do that will be different?

i got new glass...(my old glass was a little not perfect) and im thinking about moving to led's.. but i havent really made any commitments... i was hoping to sell more of the old stuff but havent yet... the first build was pretty cool... the changes im making are just little ones... and of course ... adding a true quarantine... got a new skimmer... although.. the last one is awesome... just upgraded because the pumps are getting more energy efficient.. im not sure what it is.. one of the new "cone" skimmers... other ive debated on dosing.. but i thik ill stick with the calcium reactor for a while...

Hi neighbors to the east! Mel said he was coming to visit and I decided to tag along. My name's Tina I'm probably the newest member of MTRC and don't have much in the way of corals yet, but have some and several really cool fish. Just learning to keep things in check, since I'm a nearly lifelong freshwater hobbyist who was always wishing to do salt, but afraid til this year. It can be done!!!
I hope to make it out to one of your swaps as well, but it'll have to be when the DJ season slows down a bit. Not that I want it to--paying the bills is a good thing!

Howdy, ya'll. Good to see you around here where things are a bit more laid back and the server is rarely bogged down. :)

I've backed off from big systems and just enjoy my 24G nano these days, but I have made my own LED fixture for it and have metal halide PAR values at about 1/2 to 1/3 the wattage.

...a swing arm has failed and you bought a better instrument...
Been there, done that -- and tested the limits of how long a paly can survive in brackish water.
