280g Tank

72" x 30" x 30"

This tank is run like a semi-peninsula with the left glass being powerhead-less because it's the first thing you see when you come in the room.

I currently have 4 MP40s on back glass (at lower speeds), and a Orbit 4 on far right glass going the 6' distance.

I'm finding the Gyre really loses power ~halfway across the tank.

I'm considering an MP60 but worried that either:

A) This thing is going to be way too over the top, or

B) Once I turn it down, the flow will actually be inferior to the gyre's circular flow, even though its underpowered.

Anyone have impressions of the MP60 in this kind of application?

Couple things to look at
1) placement of the mp40 on the back glass and how they are running

2) what do you want the mp60 or gyre to do? Just stir the pot and run at a single speed or add more to turbulent flow

The flow from the mp40 could be interfering with the flow from the gyre and blocking it from reaching across the tank. I think you have plenty of circulation and don't need another powerhead of some kind, just need to work on positioning of what you have to get what you want.

Maybe move an mp40 to the side, and turn the gyre vertical and have it sweep across the front glass

I love the idea of having the gyre go long across the front.... Right now I am keeping the MP40s mostly out of the way of the Gyre's flow across the top....., but if I could move some of them up, it'd allow me to bump up their power too.

Thanks!

Why can’t you move them up? I had the exact setup you’re talking about on my peninsula and it was suffering! I added two mp40’s to the viewing end and my sps took off!

I tried almost every type of powerhead on my 6 foot peninsula. The MP60 was the only one that could overcome the 6 foot length and wasn't a major eyesore or shoot out a super narrow pointless stream. They did like to pull the sand back though :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

My 59×30×22 runs 2 Sea Sweeps with Tunze 6255's. A Sweep and a 6255 is only $100 more than a 60.
Mine are on the lowest setting with alot more power available when the system grows in.
Plus only 2 needed for your system and the cords go through the sweeps.

And when you mean 'move them up', you just put the MP40s so they were disruptive of the Gyre's flow? I think I may be misunderstanding

Interesting - I'll have to give this a look - never even considered a sweep!
