The Ecotech MP40 currently sells new for $429.99. The MP60 is $819.99. I realize it’s got quite a bit more power, but that’s almost double the price. Any significant manufacturing cost differences I am naive to or do they just charge that much more because people like me pay it?

The cost of money has been slashed and the value of every printed currency has sank to make up for the over abundance of the stuff. So the folks who are making things are facing a situation where the stuff they make needs to be more expensive to recover the lost value of each transaction. We are lucky that some people are still making us stuff under these circumstances as it is difficult to know how steep the price curve will be after they sell something for cash and then they have to go find new materials to build more and they find the same increases in those items and they have to take a gamble that the consumers will be ok with the new prices next year.

You have to be poor to get a free lunch.

I get that the MP60 moves twice the water as the MP40, but the MP40 moves twice the water as the MP10 and the price only goes from $349.99 to $429.99. Not complaining. Just genuinely curious.
The MP 40 used to a good value prior to the price increase, I am a Tunze guy, I just got a 6105 I have to turn it down on my 120 gallon tank, it will be nice on my 6 foot tank. I get it no wires in the tank. Just ears. I am amazed that a Jebao OW 25 and push against the 6105.

The MP60 and 40 aren’t comparable in any way. The 60 has much larger magnets and that alone is a chunk of money.

After trying a plethora of powerheads, the MP60s were the only pumps that can handle a 6 foot peninsula.

They’re not for everyone. You gotta underst- they’re almost a commercial product. Yes, yes I know people use them here but they’re big. They are not super quiet.

I think the cost has something to do with stocking and making them. The use cases are fewer and far between.

They are the best at reliability, maintenance, and moving water if you don’t want a big bulky powerhead in your tank. There just isn’t a better option for “1 powerhead on either side and you’re done” for 6’ tanks right now.

They charge what the market will bear to maximize their profits. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who are willing to pay bloated prices for reef equipment so this is what we get.

That being said, I own 2 MP40s, 2 XR30s, and 2 Neptune Skys. I also own several cheap chinese pumps and those work just fine.

I almost got 2 mp40s and 1 mp60 for my waterbox 220.6. Ended up with 2 mp60s and 2 octo op-4s.

I had the octos first and then realized I needed more random flow. Now I definitely have all the flow I need. Heck maybe if the design of gyres gets fixed I’ll get two of those to add flow from back part of tank to front part of tank.

I run them at 80% lagoon mode in a six foot tank. The octos run at 70% on the corners making an x across the tank in tide mode.

I think the mp60s are worth it, and I would have regretted getting mp40s. The 60s produce very wide flow in comparison I think.
