boy! nice pic's, and knuckles has got some nice stuff!!

what's your technique on b&w images, junior? i used to use a technique that gave far superior results to just using greyscale, but i'll be danged if i can remember how i did it, or where i read about it.

The black and white was an after thought, i just took saturation of -100 in camera raw. Not the way to do it, but it was 130 in the morning when i was processing those pics.

Sure its a Nikon D300 and a Tamron 90mm lens.

The top dendro pic also included 3 extension tubes stacked as well.

I agree with Rev.

Like them all, but the one has some much color and depth. Really nice.

Also like the B & W.

Great shots.

Nice stuff. I've heard good things about that Tamron 90 and your images support those statements. Is the build quality on that lens up to snuff? I would like a macro lens in the 100-mm range (sometimes the 180 is just too long), but generally shy away from Tamron's lenses. It looks like that one is right on the button.

i've seen a lot of junior's pic's using the Tamron, and that is what gave me the confidence to buy it, instead of the canon. also, research i've done only showed minimal (if any) increase in performance over the canon 100 mm.

hopefully this sunday we'll have a chance to put them face to face (the canon 100m vs the tamron 90 mm).

even ding-dongs like me can take in-focus, close-up pics with this lens :D

Its plastic primarily, which i dont like. However, its very light, solid as can be, and for being plastic thats pretty impressive.

Its glass isnt that of Nikkor, but its better than most.

Its got smooth action, which is always a plus, and has razor sharp detail corner to corner.

Ive got the Sigma 150mm too, and i never even pick it up anymore.

I thought about buying the nikon 105 the other day, but decided to get the focusing rails instead. They came in today, ill get some pics up tonight using them and we can give them a quick review.

One thing i like better about the nikon 105 and the canon 100 is that it has internal focusing. The tamron's barrel extends as you go through the range of the lens.

Its not a big deal, but it can be a PITA at times.

However, overall for the money ~vs~ nikon its perfect. Its half the price of the nikon 105.

Its only $50 cheaper than the canon 100 though...so thats a tough call.

I think the barrel moving during focusing is worth the $50 to get the Canon myself, other then that, the only other difference is focusing speed, in the last review I read, the Canon was marginally faster.

yeah, but who ever uses auto focus for macros?

there is a couple reasons why i love my tamron, and would likely never get rid of it.

Some might think of it as a bad thing, but, I has a much easier to move focus ring.

When using the top down box, you only can get a partial grip on the ring, so its A LOT easier to get in focus than the canon or nikon in this circumstance.
