Just curious as to what is going on with my monti digi? Woke up to these strings of bubbles coming off of it.

It looks like it could be coral slime. I haven’t seen that coming from my digi, but my monti cap, which is 6-8 inches away will slime if I turn down the flow and spot feed reef roids. After turning on the flow again, sometimes the slime gets caugh in the digi ‘s branches.

The monti cap’s slime does persist for a few minutes before getting sucked into the skimmer.

It might be releasing zooplankton, or it could be Dino’s . The tank looks new .
The tank is new. Started cycling in January, added 2 fish and a softie in February. Added a few sps and 1 lps and another softie in March. Recently added 2 clowns, 2 monti and a gorgonian plus 3 macros.

I'm guessing that's what it is. I just spot fed everyone and my monti cap slimed when it was done. This digi is producing its own in one spot. I decided to move it to a slightly more flow area directly above where I had it. It's helped.

Looks like a hydnopora, not a monti, agree with others , just a bit of slime.
I've looked at hydno images and this is definitely a digi. I'll ask my lfs to verify though. It came off a massive colony.

Im sure a few others may chime in, but my eyes are telling me thats hydnopora.

Tentacles are more fleshy, forming in undulating lines not uniform like montipora digitata.

pictures aren't as good as an in-person point of view though, so Ill consider my hydnopora ID as a "guess".

Nice piece!

I found some close ups of both and now I think you're 100% accurate on hydnophora... Now to do my research on this species.
