Oh no, you accidentally introduced a fish into your tank with velvet, and now you are doing all you can to save your tank. Maybe you accidentally bumped into your tank and broke something off of it. Do any of these situations sound familiar to you? Mistakes are something all of us make in the hobby. However, with mistakes comes better knowledge about what we should or shouldn't do. I am wondering what mistakes you have made in the past and how they have shaped you into becoming a better reefer.

Yup, after introducing ich and having to QT all my fish and going fallow... Now qt before putting them in the display.
I'm getting much better at qt'ing now and the issues that come up.

Oops I accidentally got into this hobby and now I'm broke. Haven't found a fix to my particular problem yet.

I just had this happen yesterday. On my 135 gallon fowlr, I have the controllers for the return pump and skimmer on the side of the tank instead of a board away from the tank. Well, I have a large lionfish that thinks he is a shark and breaches the water, splashing it down the sides of the tank. He took out both the return pump and the skimmer by splashing water on their controllers, which was my fault for mounting them there.

This tank has been setup this way for 6 years. Lesson learned is don’t get complacent and assume today will be as yesterday was. Look at your tank everyday.

We only learn from failures and mistakes in life. Sometimes our own and sometimes others.
