Hello everyone! Been a while since I did an update.

First, I'm deep in "job hunting" mode. Its progressing and I'm going to be very selective. Definitely want to make the right choice as I want it to be my last and final job!

Now for the tank.......mainly parameters.

Alk is very stable with a doser......always 7.8 - 8. GREAT!

Now for NO3 and PO4........this is crazy! Guess what happens when you add a diamond goby to a sand bed that has been basically untouched for about 18 month?

YUP! Nutrient spike! Over a 4-5 week period and a deep, deep cleaning of a now pristine sand bed, My NO3 is over 60, and PO4 is up to .292.

But guess what? NO ALGAE! Zip. Nada. nil. none!

Now, I don't want it to be there so here is the plan:

30 gallon WC this Friday (been 2 months without one)

Upping carbon dosing to bring down nitrates over the next 2-3 weeks....slooooowly.

Have lanthanum chloride coming to begin dosing and bring phosphates down sloooowly.

Targets are NO3 10-20, PO4 .05 - .1.

take care everyone.......I will be able to start doing more updates I believe.

Mike

Najer went thru this in similar fashion, but with cave gobies. Mini cycle and he suffered some sps losses. How are the corals reacting? If at all?
@najer , I just read up on what happened. I’m so sorry :(
Everything is ok except for my montipora spongodes. Totally browned out. Some zoas appear to be shrinking as well. Sponge growth in the tank is really growing with some cool sponges with large siphons.
Tomorrow will be a 30 gallon WC. Then another one or two next week as well.
I want to get nutrients back to where they were with NO3 10-16ish and PO4.05-.1
Nems and clam are ok too. What I don’t get though is no algae bloom. I am running the reactor growing GHA, but it is very small compared to system volume and nutrient levels.

We will get through this, funny how a harmless looking fish or 2 can tilt the balance, it surprises me more because I have great macro algae filtration that doesn't usually take long to take up the slack.
A lot of mine is the leathers as the gobies managed to get 7 or 8 leathers to sulk and shed at around the same time.
Fresh carbon today and moving both my oxydators into the display.
Good luck. :)

Tank update:

did a 49 gallon wc Thursday. After the WC
Alk is stable at 8
NO3 from 60+ to 45ish.
PO4 from .292 to .25

The Brightwell Phosphate-E (lanthanum chloride) arrived yesterday. I want to lower phosphates slowly so I used the dosing calculator to see how much I need to lower it .1. Then I used 50% of that. Also erred on the safe side for water volume.
for nitrates I upped my homemade NoPox dosing from 12 ml per day to 24 ml per day over the past 10 days.
full testing again on Monday.
have a good weekend everyone!
