My grouper has not eaten in almost a month. He has an impaction. I tried epsom salt in the water which did not work but it did severely damage my corals. My sinularia in particular which released much toxin into the water as it struggled. Finally I put it in another tank. I had thought the other corals were struggling from the sinularia toxins but I am wondering now if it absorbed the same epsom salt that is killing the sinularia. I have changed over 100% of the water. Its a 180 with a 120 sump. So it was a lot to do that.

How much (by weight) did you dose?

Have you checked salinity?

1 tbs per 5 gallons. Also it spiked the heck out of the salinity. I wish I had not tried it but I wanted to help the grouper. Now I will likely loose my prize fish and my prize coral. I had two neo green sinularia that were quite large and probably over $300 each at the store. I had to change so much water just to get the salinity down. According to the refractometer. I did that the first day. Then I changed well over a hundred gallons of saltwater in addition to the many gallon of fresh just to balance the salinity. Now my gsp is closing and my anthelia is struggling. I still think those two are suffering from sinualria toxin. But I think the sinularia is finished. It stopped turning black but now has broken off the the rock. Its in a ten by itself. It was a post about a constipated tang on this sits. It said epsom was reef safe and I used the standard ups kind. Nothing fancy.

For future reference the salt thing works in freshwater but in this hobby, adding salt into salt water does nothing at all. I guess it might increase the salinity.

Did you add raw salt to the tank? Did salt land on the coral?

I did it just as I mix salt. I mixed it in water and then added it to the tank. I think epsom salt must be bad for corals. Its sad. My sinularia was amazing and I traded and entire system for the two pieces. I dedice that because it absorbs that it absorbed what was ever bad for it. And it may be the end. It it lives it has really depleted. Some turned black and died. It seems to continue to melt. Its awful. I'd say never use epsom if you have corals. It did not hurt the fish or the inverts. There is not other cure for conatipation of the fish is not eating so I tried the epsom just in case.

I believe if you were to try that you would isolate the fish in a selersre container of saltwarer and then add some Epson salt and bathe the dish for 5-10 min per treatment. But also I think this is more of a freshwater fish treatment
