yes over the past year . I was fighting algae , tring to figure out what it was. Well, after removing and changes to system. Even to bare bottom tank.
I just ordered 40 lb of fiji pink sand from BRS. my old lights were the issue. dang those reef breeder proton lights... lol
So , now I am going to put sand back in , due to yes bare bottom is cleaner, but I miss my goby and along with a natural looking reef tank.

I just did a **** DEPO buy of a DYI of this RotterTube, to get away from sock filters. I made my own cost of 25.00 for parts. but filter floss is way cheaper . not to mention of the hassle of cleaning filter socks every 3 days. now I just quick disconnect and slide in new floss. That alone is a headache aside. Now waiting on my live fiji pink sand, and dry rock to put in the sump. Hopefully all will be back to normal. Also noticed corals been ticks since the change of removal of sand bed, and light change. So with the lack of system filtration and Lighting. I am looking forward to a 90 degree turn around.......

thinking of cutting out the decider in the first stage of the sump, where skimmer ,reactor, and filter tube will all be with some rock , would may be be better with out the divider before the return. especially since I don't have a refugium any longer in the middle.... What do you think ?

I never had a problem, until I got those led lights . even changed the leds out , and still battled system algae from hell for a year +....... my guess , is cheap leds, along with the stock whites that were 7500 lower kelvin, before the swap t0 10k-20k. Firm believer in you get what you pay for now......should have done kessil or radions....

Oh. Thanks for explaining. I've read that you want 10k whites but I didn't realize a different value could cause algae issues.

I guess I am a dumb newbie, and don't know what I am doing. Congrats to your Reefer knowledge setting me straight....
First off I am not new at this, second of all . My tank has been running perfect for 2 years on my 40 breeder. But as soon as I swapped lights, and did Logans suggested 20% and work up. Well , I did, and never got to even 50 % and had this problem happen all of the sudden . But as any other reefer , we are all learning something new in this hobby all the time. So back off with the know it all . slamming ! or at least thats how I am taking your comment.

Also I have owned MH, T5's ,and now 2 sets of different led's . Its funny how when I got rid of the ReefBreeders to Kessils, no more algae bloom after about 3 months of picking and less light during the day. Still today 6 months after having the kessils , still now return of that nasty algae bloom that had to be from the RB light.....

I'm unsure how one brand of lights grow algae worse than others?

If you changed your lights 6 months ago, and are still fighting the issue, stands to reason its not lights that are your problem?

I wasn't out of line at all with my statement, trying to help you out.

If it took three months to go away, then light is irrelevant and the algae ran its course. Maybe you spent 700$ for no reason....

You clearly would rather throw money at your issues than ask or follow advice, good day to you sir.

I don't think anyone meant any harm in responding, it's what we do on forums. But, I would like to add that I run Kessils (360WE's) and a little over a year ago I introduced a wicked strain of invasive macro-algae on a frag and it spread like wildfire! The problem for me was not lighting, it was parameter imbalance. I got into a comfortable routine because the corals and fish were healthy and growing, but I did have an undetected spike in phosphates and nitrates (wasn't testing....). Once I got my system back in check and plucked that crap out, I was able to get an algae free tank, still running Kessils. I do agree with you on that you do get what you pay for, especially in this hobby! Glad you were able to get things back to normal, fighting anything invasive is a freakin nightmare.

You should post up your params. Its easily possible you got a PO prob in the rock, its not uncommon.
Ive been slowly blasting be fuge to suck up the po in a tank plus slowly ramping up my gfo.
