Merletti or Welsi

Snagged this Fifth Element Blastomussa last night on the @WWC live sale. Does anyone know if it is a Merletti or a Wellsi? The only identifying factors I can seem to find are bigger/smaller or branching/encrusting and obviously it's difficult to tell from a frag...

Wellsi are a bigger polyp compared to the Merletti and grow like an Acan whereas the Merletti grows closer in appearance to a Duncan or Caulastrea. I’d say Merletti

I'd let it grow out, typically single head blastomussa are wellsi. Also, reach out to WWC, they can tell you what they fragged.

Looks just like the one I have which is a welsi. This polyp gets to be 2” across when fully open.

That’s great! Exactly what I was hoping for.

WWC said they “believe it’s a wellsi” as well.
