Hey all! I recently had a new tank fall into my lap and it came with a Mastertronic water tester. I am still pretty new to reefing and have only had cheap gear so far. I am a bit overwhelmed with the Mastertronic as it stands, and am seriously considering just selling it. Any advice on the best utilization of it? Has anyone tried pairing it with Dosetronic? I'm not familiar with either system and just want to add in better automation to the care of my tank. It's just a world I'm not really fully informed on and looking for a crash course in the best way to get started. Is it with keeping, or would I be better off as a newbie to sell it and plan for automation once I am more comfortable with reefing as a whole?

Sell it. Use the money to set up the tank and get a controller (Hydro or APEX) instead.
That was my inclination as well. I do have a hydros controller on there now, but the automated testing and dosing I do not. I will probably look more into the Maven. If you know anyone looking to buy it, send them my way! Still too new to post it for sale on here lol

If you are able to get the MT up and running, it does link with HYDROS FYI. There wouldn't be a need to purchase an alternative doser, as those numbers can be imported to Hydros and actionable dosing decisions can be made on them.

At Hydros, you the end user should have the option of pairing whatever equipment you have. So companies that are willing to work with us, we're happy to oblige. Focurstronic's Mastertronic and Alkatronic link wirelessly to Hydros, Kamoer kH Carer, and Sicce SDC pumps all make that list, end it continues to grow with y'all's demands! :)

Obviously the feature set with MAVEN will be massively convenient with that first party connection, and the amount of r&d we're putting into it. So much fun stuff ahead.

Awesome to know! I knew nothing about the Mastertronic before getting it, so that is extremely helpful to know that it might actually work with what I currently have. I guess I just assumed it would be proprietary. That said, there is still a large part of me that likes the idea of keeping everything all within the same brand and support system to make it easier to work out any issues that might come up. Thank you for the info! It gives me a great place to continue research.
