Can you put just a clownfish and mandarin goby together in a nano tank and mandarin goby diet and clownfish diet doe both need to be live in ro/dI system or just tap water to live in the saltwater

RODI is the gold standard - tap water is going to have contaminants that adversely affect fish and inverts.
How big a tank is this? I would never consider a mandarin for any nano, as their dietary needs are too great (they need a constant supply of live foods and will strip a small tank bare in weeks). Clowns can just be pure evil. My female will kill anything that goes in her tank (except her mate).

mandarin dragonet (i dont actually think they are gobies) need a medium sized tank that is at least a year old. Most will not eat pellets or even if they do still will need to eat live food to be around. brine shrimp could work but its extra work

You’ll have an impressive algae collection in no time with non-RO water
Save yourself a lot of wasted money and headaches and invest in a cheap RODI from the start. RO Buddy works great

they don’t really swim, they sorta hover around.
as long you’re producing their food,
they’re good to go.
A mandarin is not appropriate in a 5g tank for a person new to the hobby. They need to eat often and have a specific diet. Good chance is it will starve.
Please don’t kill this fish.

Mandarins/Dragonets literally spend their entire existence hunting pods to eat. No amount of rockwork in a 5g tank is going to be able to support that... It would wipe out the pod population in a 5g by the end of the week, and then starve to death unless your pumping a $20 bottle of pods into the tank every few days (which still prob wouldn't work). Even if it managed to survive for a little while, it certainly isnt going to be happy/thrive
OP It is a laughably bad idea to keep a mandarin/dragonet in a 5g tank - pretty much a guaranteed death sentence for the poor fish, especially if you are new and not experienced with fish husbandry
Be a responsible fish keeper. 5g is barely a sustainable environment for a single very small fish period.

I know you're kinda getting answers you don't want to hear, but that's part of posting. I'm glad you did. In the end good Husbandry starts before fish livestock are purchased. Independent research is key. With each fish and coral I'm planning on putting into my tank, I've done the reading required to make a decision. In addition I've got notations in my phone on each lifeform. Below is an example of just one of my short forms. Longer ones in another section. Not that my way is the only way, I just require something to refer to and the act of writing things down solidifies informational transfer into my gray matter.

what works for an advanced reefer might not work for all.
(i’ve had a target in a 10g for close to two years now… she’s slowly grown from the size a lifesaver candy into a fat lady…. tank is well established and full of pods though and she shares them with a few trimmas and a flaming prawn goby)

I suspect you are not ready for a mandarin, do yourself and the fish a favor and avoid getting one in a nano tank. That its unless your planning to cultivate pods and dose them daily...

As many others have already said, please do yourself a HUGE favor, and just get an RO, or RODI system. They are not very expensive anymore, and are very easy to self install. It will save you more headaches than you can imagine. As for the Dragonet, also been said, They really need a very mature tank to survive. My tank is just over a year, and I have not gotten one yet, but I do want one. I get it, they are absolutely adorable!! But it will almost certainly starve to death in a new tank.
