sorry bad pic but best I could take.
Is this a female or a male?

Id say its a female due to the fins.

100% male. It has spikes to it's dorsal fin, they are just not fully developed, or has been broken off(commonly happens during collection).

Females dorsal fin is completely rounded. It has no "spikes" to it.

I'm unsure, looks like a 'whale shark'
I could be wrong as this is best picture :)

heres a short video..
u can see him/her flashing in the end

For one I definitely would not be tapping on glass 'to wake up' mandarin and two, you know which as died.
unfortunately I'm not here to find where's Wally/Waldo.
Your perfect pair of mandarin appear to be in a quarantine box, both male and female species.
I would definitely say without a doubt that yes, it's either male or female 'whale shark'
