Hi guys I’ve noticed that my magnesium lvl was dropping below 1200. Got the nyos mag and started dosing it to my 450 gallon tank. Dose around 700 gm of it over a day. But what went up is actually my calcium instead of magnesium, any idea why?

But my calcium is at 670 now. Will it b dangerous if I kept dosing and it went higher?

That has to be an Error. 670 is too high. Get a salifert test kit and test it. They’re accurate. 486 to 670 makes no sense due to a Mg correction. Dosing Mg should never raise your Ca that high.

Maybe do some water changes with a rock bottom low Ca salt to bring it down. Or you can wait and let it fall naturally. Probably an error though.

Well there you go.

Switch to a regular two part where you can control Ca independently. Like BRS Pharma.

Stop the AFR and Kalk. Both have Ca.

Only dose KH for right now. BRS soda ash or similar. Only if you have the demand though. Never dose anything if the tank isn’t consuming it.

Not got a trident but have heard they can give dodgy calcium results if the reagent is low. You are mixing the magnesium powder with water first, I guess?

Yes I did, but that magnesium in itself will not influence Ca drastically like that unless that product has Ca in it as well.

He needs a Salifert test kit. It’s the best I’ve found lately. Their Mg kit is a little less accurate, but Ca has been very close. Ditched my Red Sea.
