Did it ever have the bubble tips? Not that is matters much but do you give it food occasionally? If I had to guess I would say it’s the lights. When I go to the LFS I notice the rbta stretch when they aren’t getting enough lighting. So my RBTA never really “bubbles”. Looks healthy otherwise. Any advice on what helps that? I know I’ve said it before but I’m super jealous of yours. Lol
All good. You can tell the color difference unless you took a pic during a different time Of day. I would have to say it’s the light. Do you know what light/par it was at the store? Here it is the first few days before it relocated to its current spot. Sorry! I don’t mean to takeover your build thread.
IME, Cyano if it’s bad it will spread anywhere and everywhere. It can be caused by many reasons, I did however discover it spreads SO much quicker under blue light than it does white light.I can’t really pinpoint what might of caused it or what might stop it. I’m reading up on causes and treatment now.
it’s possible my parameters might have shifted one way too much but I don’t think so. I did get a trident and have noticed a swing in alk by .3 within six hours. I dose 3 part but not much. 16 ml per day.
potential reasons:
I started battling Cyno on the sand about 6-7 weeks ago. Still dealing with it but managing to only having to clean it once a week. I do realize I have an imbalance in the water column.
one thing that happened a couple weeks ago I found that my trident waste water was leaking into my DDR two part vessel. I couldn’t say how many days I was dosing contaminated two part but know the ddr liquid had a purple hue.
I will say that before the Cyno and leading up to it I was feeding the tank 4-6x per day. I would dose AB+ once per week. I would give reef roids 1x per week. My corals coloration was really amazing and had decent polyp extension. did I mention the corals really popped and looked super healthy. I don’t run a skimmer and have fuge in the back chamber.
Once the Cyno came, I stopped aminos, roids and reduced feeding. I lowered my lights for a little over a week. I noticed my corals starting to lose color quickly and started to brown out so I ramped up the light over ten days. could this be the reason? I have about 25 acros and 7 are STN. The others look pretty good and acclimating back to the light. I’m afraid if it will spread to the healthy acros?
I will try to add pics of the acros tomorrow.

Thanks for joining in. I feel like I’m winning the cyno battle as it’s no longer on the sand but for a small spot in the back.IME, Cyano if it’s bad it will spread anywhere and everywhere. Also hi! I’m new to this thread but it looks beautiful
That’s great news to hear you’re winningThanks for joining in. I feel like I’m winning the cyno battle as it’s no longer on the sand but for a small spot in the back.
the bigger concern is if the STN will spread to other corals.
It’s interesting you say you added one fish and boom it was gone. If I look back I removed one fish and added a second power head and got Cyno. Not sure if that was the last straw or combination of other things I missed. That’s great news to hear you’re winning
I spent 2 years of fighting it and at one point I gave up. I added one fish and boom it was like nothing ever happened. That fish was a Hectors Goby, I don’t know whether I beat it due to balancing out one of the nutrients or if it was due to adding a predator of Cyano and other algaes but I had a clean sand bed and rocks a week later. Now I’m finally adding SPS and growing them happily.
Actually that reminds me to do the WC on my nano, I haven’t done it for almost 2 weeks however surprisingly the SPS are still happy.im bummed though. I lost several frags including a Walt Disney over the last few weeks. It’s seems like they brown and then “dry” out. Also had some STN. Still other corals are doing okay. Just trying to keep up with my water changes and nutrients balanced .
I’m not convinced that the Cyno caused the sps to die off. But do Think it’s a nutrient issue or a pest.Actually that reminds me to do the WC on my nano, I haven’t done it for almost 2 weeks however surprisingly the SPS are still happy.
As for the Cyano, you may have lost bioload, the flow doesn’t make sense though as my cyano didn’t grow anywhere that flow hit.
The coral growth is beautiful. The BTA is always going to be an attention grabber tooTook some pics. a few corals are coming back nicely. All are about 30 days
I have a Walt Disney that’s barely hanging on.
