OMG I can't get over your sticks!!!!! I will be buying a ton once we know we can do them with success!
My advice - wait until your tank has been running for at least nine months, and then start with a cheap acro. Something like a green slimer, tricolor valida, green goblin anacropora, or anything else that you can get for $30 or less.

Make sure you have tons of flow, and you'll want somewhere between 250-500 PAR where you'll be placing the acros. For the first few weeks that you have them, make sure to stay up on your water changes religiously.

We have a really nice selection right now and will have plenty once you are ready! You could try with an easy sps first, like the milka stylo, green goblin anacropora, teal stylo

I'd say get a cheap acro and give it a try. Might need some more lighting to get some of those insane colors, but I dont see a problem with it living.
Example: I had an emergency in one of my tanks, went out and bought a 10 gallon as a quarantine tank, ALL my sps went right into it after day 3 of setup... no live rock or sand. Just a big bag of bio pellets, 1 clown and a bottle of biospira. No issues. Yes it was a pain to keep it stable (it still is), but the myth that you need this super old and mature tank to keep acros and sps is just that... a myth. What you need is a little stability, high flow, and decent lighting.
Ya we have a ton of sticks actually lol. They are on the cheaper side except for the cali torte and the christmas marbelis. Our biggest thing was we jumped right into coral and the sticks were totally effected when we went through the whole diatom stage :( This is what we currently have though. The alpha, the branching monti and mint pavona seem to be doing good! the ones on the frag rack include 2 green goblins and are coming back to life too. They were pretty much dead from the diatoms. The christmas we just got so we will see how that fairs. I think our biggest issue is we haven't rented a par meter so for the most part its guessing and referring back to the research brs has done about the par our lights put off.

You need your parameters to be very stable. Sticks are pricks
Lol maybe to get insane color and growth... I have about 20 sps frags in a 10 gallon(see my post 1 or 2 pages back) and they are perfectly fine... n they've been perfectly fine for months, even with heavy alk swings.

Why wait so long?

Acropora are some of the more sensitive corals. They need stable parameters and a mature in-tank microbial community. Some people get lucky and can provide that fairly early on, but most tanks don't reach that level for months or even years. And when things aren't good, they tend to go downhill fast, and become breeding grounds for other algae.

So you don't -have- to wait, but your chances of success go up the more mature your tank is.

As far as PAR goes... place them low and slowly move them up, you dont NEED a par meter. If they start to go white, then lower them, if they start to brown or go dark move them up. The coral will tell you what it likes more than a par meter will.

I knew about the white because that is bleaching but didn't know about the brown! Thanks! :)
