I've heard Marco rocks is good but I'm unable to get a response to email or phone s0 I'm now looking for other base rock and hoped R2R would have some suggestions and reasons for those suggestions.

Yeah, I'd second on the reef saver or marco. Dry rock is ideal, especially if you are trying to start the tank pest free. There are a bunch of other man made options (RealReef, Tampa Bay Saltwater, etc. ) if you want to top things off with some life and seed the tank. Stay away from the dead dry rock if you can (Pukani, Fiji) as it will have a lot of dead matter on it, not to mention it is live rock ripped off the reef, and allowed to dry out on the boat in transit - probably one of the most destructive and un-sustainable practices in the hobby today. Also totally unnecessary with all the biological media we have today that is more porous, and cheaper to employ...
