Hey everyone, I'm just getting back into the hobby after a decade break and I could use some help on choosing my lighting. The tank I am getting is the IM Nuvo 50 EXT which is about 30x24x16. I am planning on it eventually being SPS dominant. My budget is around $1,000 for the lights, and so far I really like the Kessil AP9X and the Neptune Sky LED. Are both of these lights sufficient for an SPS reef in the Nuvo 50? What light(s) would you recommend? Thanks!

I personally would go with the Kessil AP9x as the over look of the physical light as well as the shimmer it gives off is something I like. It would be good enough light for a mixed reef for that size tank where you put SPS in the middle and top portion and lps/softies at the bottom.

Another good option are the ecotech radions which are worth looking into and I took you could get two xr15s within your budget and be set for an SPS dominated tank

I personally dont have any experience with the neptune skys.

@$1000 for a 50gal tank you have all sorts of choices on and off the beaten path.

Off the common paths and you find things like this ..

I don't t care what one is growing the decision should be based on personal need/wants.......
Ease of use, overall running " color" ,hanging, in tank, in hood, species, looks,
particular diodes,particular k temp ....ect.ect..ect.

I vote two XR15 G6's for an even spread for a mixed reef, with enough PAR for SPS in the middle part of the tank.

The Kessil can do the same and you can't beat the shimmer, but maybe the Radions have a slight edge for making the coral colors pop a bit more.

There's always @noopsyche lights. They have a 140 watt app controlled LED for around $200.
