I’m running two LifeReef SVS2-24 in two different aquariums. Both have Simplicity 1000 pimps now, just added second one yesterday. On tuning them are you mostly doing it off the speed control, with the gate valve almost closed, or ramping up the pump, and tuning with the gate valve alone? BTW, I’m producing a nice dark skim, just want to get an idea, what works best.

They are two independent adjustments if you are talking about the gate valve on the outlet. You should adjust the pump speed to get the volume of bubbles in the column that you like and then adjust the gate valve to control the level in the skimmer and produce the dark/light quality of skimmate you like. I would probably run the pump near maximum speed. It pushes more water flow through the skimmer.
