I am looking to upgrade my red sea reefer 750. I love the 6' by 2' by 2' dimensions. It is long enough to provide impressive size, and the height and width allows for proper aquascaping of coral. I am looking at a 8 foot tank. I am wondering what a two foot height will look like on an 8 foot tank?

I do not want to go higher as 2 feet allows my arms to reach the bottom. But I am worried it will look too shallow. I know that shallow reefs are a thing but if the height does not match the length it does not look as majestic or grand. A golden rule at about 2:1 to 3:1 ratio of length and height for most aquariums.

I would like to see your 8' tanks of all different heights so I can get a visual representation.

Thanks and Happy Reefing!

Shallow reefs really only look beautiful when the reef has a smaller dimension like 3’ IMHO.
An 8’x2’ reef looks well, pretty much like a large scale shallow reef. For an 8’ reef to look big and fit what you want, you ideally want a 2.5-3’ deep tank with a 3’ depth minimum. You can make them look beautiful with a 2’ depth as well, but honestly it’s hard to make them look nice without huge colonies taking up the room.

Here's my 8x4x2. 24" tall is nice to reach the bottom, etc. This was a couple months ago when it was new and clean.

I’ve had a couple 8’ long displays and currently a 10’ display.
currently I have a 120”L x 33”W x 22” H tank
In my situation it’s just about perfect size.
I really prefer a shorter height for reaching into the tank but raise the entire tank so the viewing panel is at eye level.
My stand is 48” tall which along with the display being 22” high is great for viewing standing upright.
I have never been a fan of trying to view a beautiful reef tank while bending over trying to view the inhabitants. Just my $.02
I do have videos of my last 8’ tank but this gives you an idea of what I personally did.

That Yongei Acropora is beautiful, how old and big is it?

About 3 years old and started from a frag. I have fragged this thing so many times it could be 3x the size. One of my favorites

Your tank looks so natural, none of those colours look like what we see in Acropora usually. It’s beautiful and I wish I was closer to you, would love a frag of that Acro.
