Let’s see them skirts/skins

I’m all finished with my build and started cycling my tank. While the cycle is going I need to get my facade going. Can anyone help with some ideas on what they did. Also the tank is very quiet the only thing I hear is the skimmer and return pump, would the facade damp the noise down or would I be able to sound proof it with something?

Would be the "skirt" or the cover of a metal stand. It usually means the face of a building, so I mean it as the face of the stand.

I am currently building a stand for my 55 gal. I want a Scandinavian look so I'm going with grey stained wood ends and white painted doors. The grey stained wood will actually be laminate flooring skinned onto thin plywood. The white painted doors will also have glass in them as I am doing a fancy display sump. I'm thinking MDF for the doors. The back wall inside the stand will be more grey laminate flooring with everything else painted white. My light canopy will also be skinned with the same laminate flooring. My frame is 1" steel tube and I am using recovered hard drive magnets to attach them so its easy to completely de-skin the stand and because magnets are just cool.

Some features I'm incorporating into mine are:
-Remote fuge (i prefer my sump and fuge separate)
-Fully sealed floor with 1" drain
-Hidden but accessible 5 gal ATO tank with auto filling
-Sealed electronics box with waterproof electric plugs for all pumps
-Shelf area for dry food, tools and testing equipment
-Return manifold that can circulate water through the sump for cleaning
-Frame can be dis-assembled and packed flat for transport (were moving next year...)


I have barely anything started on the stand so unfortunately I cant supply pictures, unless you like CAD renderings lol. Should have it done by the end of the summer and I will be creating a build thread then.

your skimmer should make less noise over time if it was brand new. Do you have a wood or metal frame? I'll get a pic of mine, went for a rustic style.

It's not new, just really clean now lol. So I guess you could say its almost running like new.

Mine is traditional 2x4 construction with a 3/4” plywood top and floor and 1/4” plywood skin. Doors are attached with French cleats. Trim is 1x3 with a 1x2 lip trim to cover the black base trim of the tank.

Very nice work! I guess I should ask the S/O if she would want me to make it look like a wood stand or something more modern, might be a good start lol.

I screwed/glued the front facade to the wooden stand structure and made removable end panels that are only held in lace with decorative screws. Provides some noise damping.
