6 years my tank has been set up…so I imagine you can feel the shock, anxiety, and crippling fear I felt when I saw the entire bottom panel had sprung a leak. Now, the entire tank is empty and I need to start from scratch again. I’m heartbroken. I’m so upset. 6 years of hard work and commitment down the drain. And I go away to school next month and I won’t even be able to add anything new to my tank when it’s fixed. I’m so upset right now.

Has anything like this happened to you guys, if so how did you get past it? I’m beyond devastated.

I've never had this happen to me.
What brand/size tank was it?

It's happened to many red sea tank owners.

Sorry this happened to you. I do not know your setup but I’ve heard one of the main reasons this happens is because the bottom of the tank does not have a material below it that allows the glass-acrylic to move under tension. For example, if you had your tank sitting on stiff wood where it could have slightly compressed the wood around the bottom. It could be far more simple like have the glass touching some kind of metal digging into the glass ( nail, screw, etc.)

The bottom panel of my old tank broke in the middle of the night. It was one of those all-in-one 32g biocube, with the curved glass on the front. Menaged to get the fish and some of the coral into the sump I had installed and an old freshwater tank. Lost a lot in terms of coral but no casualties among the fish.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. How long did it take for you to get your tank back to its old shape? I’m really not looking forward to first recycling the entire tank and that to me is probably my biggest stressor.

My tank got nuked by a cucumber recently. Only managed to save a hand full of my fish. If you are determined to have a tank just keep going sh** happens unfortunately. Maybe look on FB marketplace for a tank?

So sorry to hear your tank failed. I had this happen once before, and heard many stories about red seas rimless tanks. Although I hear they have improved. Plastic frame tanks are most durable. Next custom built with euro bracing, and rimless tanks have the most cases. For me it was a custom 65 gal. I decided to strip out all the inside silicone beads on , and re-bead with new silicone. Bad mistake, as I later found out, this improper repair was the cause of the failure on the bottom joint.

I went to school, met a couple of wild chicks and forgot all about what was bothering me back home. At the end of the school year I was (big surprise) a father and I longed for the good old days when life seemed easy. It never was.

He made his way into my sump somehow and went into the return pump and shredded himself in it. For the life of me I cant figure out how he got into the pump. I think he got into the sump because I moved a few rocks to the sump from the DT and I think he was in one of them

It took a couple months. I had to order a custom cut piece of glass for the bottom and since I was already replacing one, I decided the back pannel could use some reinforcing as well. I did menage to skip most of the cycling part by keeping the rockwork on a tub with some pumps allong with some of the sand in the sump.
