All except swag a dose but I manually dose alk only so it's not like it's a big deal to measure it. I must admit I'm getting pretty darn good starting a syphon without getting water in my mouth. The worst part in when I'm not paying attention to the hose and end that goes in my mouth is covered with cob webs and dog hair. Give me dirty tank water any day.
Most of my maintenance is done in an unfinished basement for those of you squeaky clean folks that think having dog hair and cobwebs is nasty. Well it is but I live with it ;)
Same here, gravel floor basement. I actually had to start putting concrete down because my cats were using it as a litter box.

All of the above and some quite regularly. My day job is at a trout hatchery...if I don't get a little fish crap on me occasionally then I'm not doing my job. I also fish and go outside and play in the dirt.
I never put the user name with the profession. Very cool. I have great memories as a child of visiting a trout hatchery in southwest Missouri with my grandfather.

I know we are all consummate professionals so who will own up to some savagery. Who here has:

1. Suck started a siphon
2. Bare fisted something dead out of their tank
3. "Adjusted" salinity by throwing pure salt into return sock or somewhere else
4. Hand cleaned the skimmer cup
5. Dosed anything by SWAG (just eyeballing it)
6. Smelled a used filter/skimmer/media bag/etc on purpose

Im sure no one here does these things, but anyone here want the bonus points for carelessly starting a siphon and spitting the water back into the tank? :grinning-face-with-sweat:
And . . . . This is what makes us reefers for Life !!!

Hmm, salinity is a touch low.

Hey, look at all this salt creep.

*scratch, scratch, splash, splash.

That oughta do for now.

Ok that’s hardcore mode. After 20 years of fighting the good fight that might make me give up the hobby. For taking the mouth full of fish ook so others would not have to, I salute you.

@Jedi Knghit really? None of them? Never?

The skimmer gunk was the grossest thing I’ve ever accidentally ingested
I heaved for hours

Wrong cup !

My best advice to any new reefer is, "make sure your mouth is closed when rising out the skimmer cup".
Takes a LOT to make a nurse want to vomit.

But I’m sure the contents of a skimmer cup would work

Who doesn’t love smelling stinky stuff even though they know it’s stinky and you’re going to regret it?
I make my wife smell it! She always falls for it

My old skimmer used to drain into a 5 gal bucket . Only needed to be emptied once every few months .

imaging what that smells like when the lid is opened ….

Every guest that for weeks leading up to emptying it I made them smell it

Anyone else done a necropsy on a deceased fish? or saved a deceased fish in their freezer or a ball jar with rubbing alcohol?
As a kid I used to save a few specimens...for science.

For work I've been involved in fish health inspections, routine necropsies....I can take video if needed, inspection coming up in two weeks.

Necropsy or freeze until I could yes. Just preserve to have no. How about convince your drunk friends to eat a cube of Misys?
One of our old hatchery managers was hanging out with his drinking buddies and one of them dared him to drink a small vial of dead walleye fry. He of course thought they were preserved in alcohol.....nope FORMALIN.

He was on the ground instantly vomiting, he survived and got an artificial stomach. Amazingly this happened about 30 years ago when he was about 50. Still alive from what I hear.

I've only been doing this for six months, and the only reason I couldn't pick all is because I don't dose anything. I'm sure it won't take long to check the final box when I do start. I'm not planning to empty skimmate into my mouth though. That is serious dedication to the craft!

I’ve never dosed without measuring. And I’ve never added salt without at least stirring it in water. Now I don’t add salt without it being pretty well dissolved. Early on I would put in a pitcher of RODI and stir pouring straight into top of tank. Cloudy and obviously not dissolved. At the time didn’t know it was bad for the fish.
